TextyScrobb 0.12 - At least it's not 0.11!

What is TextyScrobb?

TextyScrobb is a PHP script that utilizes AudioScrobbler's 'Text Recent tracks feed' to grab the artist and song title of the most-recently played song. This information is then delivered as a simple text string that can be displayed on a web page through one line of PHP.

What will TextyScrobb do?

It will output the artist and song title of the most-recently played song. I just said that.

What will TextyScrobb NOT do?

It won't do your dishes, make your bed, give you an image with AudioScrobbler information, or anything else, really. It pretty much just does that one thing. For now.

What has changed since version 0.11?

  • If Audioscrobbler is down, if you have not listened to any songs in a while, TextyScrobb updates the Last Updated time but keeps the current song information instead of displaying an error message or displaying nothing.
  • Added default_socket_timeout modifier to prevent TextyScrobb from hanging.
  • Cleaned up code. Version 0.12 is more functional than version 0.11, with the exact same number of lines of actual code.

What is coming up in future versions?

The next thing on my to-do list is the ability to display more than one recently-played song. After that, TextyScrobb will probably split into two versions, with one having the usual simple functionality, while the other has more complex features like MySQL database storage and possibly automatic album art retrieval from Amazon. We'll see. Anything you want? Email me (see below.)
